STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITY OF STATE AND NON-STATE ACTORS TO RESPOND TO THE THREAT OF VIOLENT EXTREMISM

Kajubi Hamza - General secretary, Office of the Chairperson West Buganda Muslim Supreme Council.

I recommend that duty bearers come on ground and address societal problems and the social ills of the community. Because if you don’t address the social ills of society, people lose hope and violent extremism is inevitable. We do recommend that let awareness be in the day-to-day running and in the education system of Uganda so that from childhood, somebody can understand properly what violent extremism is, what its effects are and how best they can be avoided.

Ssempijja Musa - District Education Officer, Lwengo District

It is my first time to hear the word violent extremism; I did not know the meaning. At first, I took it to be any kind of violence like domestic violence and violence in other extreme forms but after the training I have got to know it.

Mugume Wilfred -Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Lwengo District

I have learnt that violent extremism can be confronted but the people charged with helping those lured into VE activities are not helping at an early stage. A young boy can be lured into such acts by friends. If such children are got at an early stage, we can surely prevent violent extremism.
